ABBEVILLE, La. -- Youngstown had its game against Kennewick, Wash., rained out Monday at the Babe Ruth 13-year old World Series.
The teams were scheduled to play the game today at 9 a.m.
The Youngstown team lost its first two games of the tournament.
Dixon commitsto Pittsburgh
YOUNGSTOWN -- Cardinal Mooney High senior basketball player Aieshya Dixon has made a verbal commitment to continue her athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dixon, a two-time first-team all-Steel Valley Conference selection, was also offered scholarships by Xavier, Cincinnati and Youngstown State.
A 6-foot-1 center, she averaged 15.5 points a game as a junior with 60 blocked shots and 308 rebounds.
Dixon has 743 career rebounds and 741 career points and this year could become the first Mooney girl to break the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound plateau.
Flag teamwins title
CANTON -- The Youngstown Swarm defeated the Canton Riders 28-0 to win the championship of the Canton regional 4-on-4 flag football tournament.
The Swarm (45-8) will now advance to the national tournament in the fall after winning the regional title.
The team defeated the Columbus Revolution 25-19, Cincinnati Five Star 20-19 and the Canton Riders 34-7 along the way.
On the Swarm are Joe Malys, Jason Hagerty, Elliott Giles, Joe Zappia, Bernard Bolha and Jim Tracy.
Canfield swimmersclaim championship
CANFIELD -- The Canfield Swim and Tennis Club racked up 1,178 points to outdistance Firestone Area (1,130 points) for the championship of the Youngstown Swim League.
Canfield has won the title six consecutive years. Boardman was third (914), trailed by Applewood (755.5) and Poland (670).
Eleven teams from three counties participated, with 621 athletes age 6-18.
Blewitt wins bronze
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Adriane Blewitt of Boardman won a bronze medal in the shot put in her first competition as a member of the USA track team.
Blewitt, a University of Ashland senior from Boardman High, got off a throw of 53 feet, 3.50 inches to place third Sunday in the North America, Central America, Caribbean Championships.
She was one of two female shot-putters representing the U.S. in the 32-nation meet.
The other American, Cynthia Ademiluyi from the University of Southern California, won the shot putt with a throw of 54-7.50.
Blewitt's top throw this season is 56-4.50.
The daughter of Rae Blewitt, Adriane is getting ready for her final year of track eligibility at Ashland.
She is majoring in physical education and health with a 3.6 grade-point average.
Mosley garnersAll-American honors
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Byron Mosley of the Youngstown Striders Track Club garnered All-American honors at the AAU Junior Olympics held at the University of Tennessee August 5-10.
Mosley finished fifth in the 13-14-year old boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.38 seconds, and fourth in the 200 with a time of 23.17. Mosley finished 10th in the long jump with an effort of 18 feet, 6 inches, and 20th in the 400 with a time of 54.8. Mosley also received All-American honors in 2000 with a victory in the 200 and second place finishes in the 100 and 400.

Jerome Golmard overcame a shoulder injury to beat 11th-seeded Jan-Michael Gambill 7-6 (1), 1-6, 6-4.
Fernando Vicente, the No. 12 seed, squandered a 4-0 second-set lead before advancing with a 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-2 win over Olivier Rochus.
* MONTREAL -- Anna Kournikova easily advanced to the second round of the Rogers AT & amp;T Cup, beating Japan's Saori Obata 6-3, 6-1 in humid conditions.
* INDIANAPOLIS -- Andrei Pavel, the No. 11 seed, beat Jeff Morrison 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the RCA Championships.
Greg Rusedski, the 14th seed, opened with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over Albert Montanes.
