The woman said her boyfriend threatened to stab her and her children.
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police arrested a 43-year-old North Side man as he yelled vulgarities at an ambulance crew after trying to drive his car over a 100-foot drop just outside Mill Creek Park.
Police said Joseph Milick Jr. of Clifton Street was trying to kill his girlfriend, but the drop was prevented when he crashed the 1994 Oldsmobile into two trees near Glenwood Avenue and Marshall Street around 10:37 p.m. Sunday.
Milick faces charges of felonious assault and driving under the influence, police reports show. He told officers that he tried to kill himself and the woman because he hated her and that he was going to "saw her head off," according to reports.
Police could not immediately find the woman, 33, who had run from the vehicle after it crashed.
She later called police to her home, where she told officers that Milick had threatened to kill her after a visit to her uncle's house, driving the car into the center divider on I-680 near Glenwood and trying to hit a tractor-trailer.
When he again hit the guardrail, the woman grabbed the key and put the car in park. Milick then beat her in the head and chin and she returned the keys, she told police. He then bit her several times, causing her to bleed, she said.
He drove onto Glenwood, hitting a guardrail and telling the woman, "You caused me to do this. When we get home, I am going to stab you and your kids," she told officers.
The man continued to beat her while running a stop sign and telling her he was going to drive off a drop in Mill Creek Park, she said. As he ran another stop sign, she grabbed the keys and put the car in park, jumping out before the car hit the trees.
Police said the woman suffered redness to her head and chin, scrapes to the left of her back and bites to her left ear, arm, knee, leg and foot.
