YOUNGSTOWN -- The city recorded its 13th homicide of the year this morning after a 46-year-old man was found shot to death outside a South Side bar.
Police were not releasing the identity of the man, who was found about 1:20 a.m. outside Larry's Lounge at 2402 Hillman St. with a gunshot wound to the lower back, police reports show.
A witness told officers that he heard two gunshots outside the bar before seeing two vehicles drive away. He said he then went inside the bar and, a minute later, he and other bar patrons heard a thump at the door.
A night manager forced open the door to see an injured man lying against it. The witness told police the man held crumpled money in his hand and the witness gave it to the manager. Police recovered $18 from the manager.
The man's wallet was empty, but police found pawn receipts bearing personal information.
By this time last year, the city had recorded 11 homicides.
