The man died of an overdose, police think.
NILES -- A man and woman have been let out of jail after being found guilty Monday of charges connected to attempting to hide a body.
William F. Stadler, 43, of Pratt Street, pleaded no contest and was found guilty by municipal Judge Thomas W. Townley of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, obstructing official business, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to report a crime.
A second charge of failure to report a crime was dismissed.
Stadler was sentenced to 390 days in jail but was released after being given credit for time served. He was also fined $300.
Friend found guilty
His friend, Yvonne Hafiz, 44, who lives with Stadler, pleaded no contest and was found guilty of falsification, obstructing official business and failure to report a crime.
She was sentenced to 300 days in jail and released for time served. She was fined $400.
Authorities said they tried to hide the body of Robert H. Abbey, 50, of County Line Road, Mineral Ridge, who was found dead Jan. 12, apparently of a drug overdose, in the couple's apartment.
According to police, Stadler called an acquaintance and wanted his help in getting rid of the body.
The acquaintance called police.
When police arrived, the couple would not allow them inside their apartment.
