Sunday, April 21, 2002

YOUNGSTOWN -- Members of Our Lady of Fatima Garden Club will mark the club's 50th anniversary with a Mass and get-together April 28.
The Mass will be held at noon at St. Christine Church with Monsignor David W. Rhodes officiating. Dinner will follow at the Holiday Inn South in Boardman.
The garden club also has donated a brick for the outdoor walkway at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education Center at Mill Creek Park and has planted a pink dogwood tree at Madonna Garden in memory of the late Mrs. Vernie Lynch, who served as first president of the club.
Organized March 25, 1952, at St. Christine Church, the club meets the third Tuesday of each month except June, July and August.
Members have planted shrubs and spring flowers on the grounds of the church and also have decorated the church for Christmas with della roba wreaths.
The club holds a membership with the Garden Club of Ohio and also is active in the Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area.
Officers for 2002 are Marion Keply, president; Jean Zimmerman, vice president; Rosemary Lazor, treasurer; and Kay Yaniglos, secretary. Hostesses for April are Kay Yaniglos and Jean Zimmerman.
