Sharon police officer gets promotion

SHARON, Pa. -- Sgt. Detective Mathew K. McComb will be Capt. Detective McComb effective Friday.
Police Chief Thomas M. Burke announced the promotion by Mayor David O. Ryan today. McComb will oversee the department's three-member detective bureau.
McComb, a 1990 graduate of Hickory High School, was hired as a patrolman in Sharon in May 1996 and was promoted to sergeant Jan. 1, 2001.
He was honored as the department's officer of the year in 1998 and has received numerous letters of commendation. He has exhibited strong leadership principles, work ethic and dedication to duty, Burke said.
He succeeds Burke in the captain's post. Burke was named chief at the beginning of the year, succeeding Raymond Greene, who retired.
