YOUNGSTOWN -- Rising Star Baptist Church is sponsoring two events.
Its prayer ministry will have a two-day prayer conference titled "Praying Thru" on Friday and April 20. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Rodney Maiden, formerly of Youngstown, who is pastor of Providence Church in Cleveland.
The free conference will include praise and worship, devotion, music, mime teams and spiritual instruction on all aspects of prayer. Registration is required. The Friday session begins at 6:30 p.m., and the April 20 session is from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Call (330) 746-2801 to register.
The church's usher board will present the fourth annual Mother's Day Banquet at 6 p.m. May 5 at the Brentford House in Hubbard. The cost is $14. Call (330) 746-5890.
84th anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Sadie Davis Reynolds of Euclid, Ohio, will speak at the 84th anniversary banquet for Phillips Chapel CME Church at 4 p.m. April 21 at St. Mark's Banquet Hall in Liberty. The Rev. Walter Gibson is pastor.
Gospel extravaganza
YOUNGSTOWN -- "Continue the Praise!" is the theme of the Third Annual Gospel Extravaganza sponsored by the Bible Club at Hillman school. It's from 6 to 8 p.m. April 26 and will feature the school's choir, Bible Choir, mime and drama ministries, and community choirs. The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for ages 5 to 12. Christian concert
NILES -- Tia Ciferno, a local Christian singer and songwriter, will perform her original music at 4 p.m. April 28 at Southside Presbyterian Church. Refreshments will be available.
Healing program
YOUNGSTOWN -- "God's Health-Care Plan," a conference on the ministry of healing, will be Friday through April 21 in Christ Church Presbyterian. The Rev. Don Bartow, pastor emeritus of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Canton, will lead the conference. Among the books he has written are "Creative Churchmanship," "A Personal Prayer Diary" and "Bartow's Healing Handbook #1."
The seminar begins at 7 p.m. Friday. Sessions run from 9:30 a.m. through 7 p.m. April 20. Services are at 9:15 and 11 a.m. with a healing service at 7 p.m., all April 21. For registration, call (330) 782-2611. Offerings will be received.
Teen program set
CORTLAND -- Teen Straight Talk and the Bristolville Area Ministerial Association will present a seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Mecca Community Church, Cortland. Each age group will have an age-appropriate educational session with time for questions and answers. Teen Straight Talk helps teens and preteens deal with drug and sexual issues. Prophetic events
WARREN -- Alpha and Omega Ministries and Sound Solution Ministry will have a kickoff celebration beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at Avalon Inn. The guest speaker for the free event is evangelist Tincie Marie Lynch of Atlanta. Lynch will speak at a prayer breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. April 20.
