Carwash shooting leaves man in critical condition



CAMPBELL -- A 23-year-old city resident was in critical condition late this morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a shooting at a McCartney Road carwash, police and hospital personnel said.
Campbell police said they found Dwayne Adams, 23, of Monroe Street, bleeding outside his car, that had crashed into a fence at a nearby intersection shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday.
What happened: Police had received a call at 8:55 p.m. that there were gunshots at the Great Reflections Car Wash, 100 McCartney Road.
About a minute later, they received another call that there was an auto accident nearMcCartney Road and Courtland Avenue.
When they got to the accident scene, they found Adams outside the car, yelling that he could not breathe, police said. He had blood on his hands and body. The driver and passenger side windows were both broken.
He told police he didn't know who shot him.
Police found several spent shell casings at the carwash along with glass and blood near a vacuum.
Hospital personnel called police to say they had found suspected marijuana on the victim.
The person who called in the report said he saw a man wearing a black coat fire the shots but he could not give any further description.
