Leadership Award
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Megan Smith, director of state and federal liaison services for Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, has been presented with the third annual Leadership Award by the intermediate unit's board of directors and Labor-Management Committee.
The award is presented to an individual fostering and promoting the role and vision of a regional service agency. The intermediate unit, a quasi-state agency, provides educational services for the 27 public school districts in Mercer, Lawrence and Butler counties.
Smith has earned a statewide reputation as a federal programs expert and has operated the largest federal Title I education consortium in the state for more than 15 years.
Smith and her husband, Bruce, live in Grove City and have three children and six grandchildren.
SCOUTS
Schell gets Eagle award
Brian Schell, son of Richard and Joan Schell, received his Eagle Scout Award recently at a court of honor at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Boardman. He is a member of Troop 60, which meets at the church, and Dr. Greg Roush is the Scoutmaster.
Schell started Scouting as a Tiger Cub. He went on to earn his Arrow of Light, and then became a Boy Scout in 1994. He has earned 29 merit badges.
For his Eagle project, he constructed a play area and gathered equipment for school-age children at The Beatitude House.
Schell is a junior at Cardinal Mooney High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society. His activities include football, Service Club, Intramurals, Science Club and Spanish Club.
Schick is honored
Kenneth M. Schick III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schick Jr. of Orris Road, Leavittsburg, recently received his Eagle Scout Award. He is a member of Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America Troop 8 with Bonnie Davis as Scoutmaster.
He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 226 and attends LaBrae High School.
He has held offices of assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, patrol leader, quarter master, and Council's North Star Junior leader training scribe.
He earned the Polar Bear Award, the Historical Trails Award and the 50-mile Afoot Award. He attended the Scout council's High Adventures Extreme Sports, where he did rappelling, white water rafting, and cave exploring. He attended the National Jamboree in 1997 and was jamboree staff member in 2001.
He is a brotherhood member of Wapashuwi Lodge 56 Order of the Arrow.
His Eagle Service Project consisted of constructing a sign at the Johnson Community Center.
Schick is a volunteer for Warren Township Fire Department.
Ceremony for White
Matthew T. White, son of Donald and Linda White of Terrace Drive, Boardman, will receive his Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor next Sunday at Camp Stambaugh in Canfield.
He is a member of Troop 46, which meets at Boardman United Methodist Church with Eric Grabman as Scoutmaster.
He joined the troop in 1994 and has earned 26 merit badges. He is a member of the Brotherhood of the Order of the Arrow and received the Stambaugh Emblem and Parvuli Dei, the Cub Scout Religious Award.
His Eagle project was to construct a railing for the sloped walkway to a pavilion for residents and visitors with walkers and wheelchairs at Boardman Community Center.
White is a senior at Boardman High School and is a member of St. Luke Church.
