SOCCER Hubbard dents Erie McDowell's armor

Warren JFK's boys and girls teams won while Poland and Boardman's girls battled to a 2-2 tie.
ERIE, Pa. -- Hubbard High's Anna DeJulio scored the game's only goal on an assist from Jaime Duvall in the second half, to lead the Eagles past Erie McDowell, 1-0, in a girls soccer match Wednesday.
It was the first goal scored on McDowell this season.
Keeper Lynle Cornell had 11 saves for Hubbard (10-1-1). Lindsey Clark had 10 saves for McDowell (5-1-0).
Warren JFK 1, Champion 0: WARREN -- Jen Burin scored the game's only goal off a free kick by Sarah McNeil with 22 minutes gone in the second half. Michelle Rossio had 11 saves for JFK (8-2-1) and Liz Wood had nine saves for Champion (5-4).
Howland 5, Salem 1: SALEM -- Darcy Quinlan scored two goals for the Tigers (9-2, 4-2 Metro Athletic Conference). Leah Albani added a goal and an assist. Lisa Hlaudy and Barbie Lewis each scored one and Kaylon Grove also had an assist. Lizzie Jesko scored for the Quakers on an assist by Alyson Cotter. Matte DeJane of Salem (0-8-2, 0-5) had 14 saves.
Niles 2, Canfield 2: NILES -- Elizabeth Mientkiewicz scored both of the Red Dragons' (4-4-2) goals in the first half.
Canfield's (4-6-1) Kerry Hageman scored a goal in the first half and then tied it with a second goal with 20 minutes remaining in the game. Erin Fening had an assist.
The Cardinals had a chance to score a goal late in the contest but it was stopped by Niles' goalkeeper Emily Pahon, who had 10 saves. Canfield's Noelle Zalac had 14 saves.
Poland 2, Boardman 2: POLAND -- Janeen Masternick of Boardman (8-4-1) scored a goal with 17 minutes remaining in the first half.
Maria Mancino scored a goal for Poland (10-1-1) with 36 minutes remaining in the game which tied the score at 1 all.
Britt Davis put the Bulldogs ahead when she scored a goal with an assist from Tara McLarney with 32 minutes to go.
Masternick then scored a goal with an assist from Sarah Grabert to tie the score at 2 with 27 minutes remaining.
The Bulldogs' Landry Yankle had five saves, while the Spartans' Lauren Callahan had 10 saves.
Girard 4, Newton Falls 1: GIRARD -- Jenny Sopkovich had two goals and two assists to lead Girard (5-6, 3-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Moran Condo added a goal and April Courtney had a goal and two assists in the victory. Desiree Sterling scored the lone goal for Newton Falls. Shannon Slezyak and Lindsay Hosking each had two saves for Girard.
Boys: NEWTON FALLS -- Quinn Macali scored two goals to lead Warren JFK over Newton Falls 4-0.
Shawn Bean added a goal and an assist for the Eagles (5-4-1), and Sal Coppola scored a goal. Freshman Brian Wolnik, recording his fourth shutout, had three saves.
Brent Davis had 14 saves for Newton Falls (1-7).
Fitch 3, Ursuline 1: AUSTINTOWN -- Sam Camens scored a goal for the Falcons with 11:07 remaining in the first half. One minute later Alex Castillo scored to make it 2-0. Evan Mikulka scored the final goal for Fitch (7-3-1) with 23 minutes remaining in the second half.
Ursuline's P. J. Graves scored with six minutes remaining.
Brett Gleydura had nine saves for the Falcons, while Dan Frank of Ursuline had 16 saves.
Crestview 1, Maplewood 1: COLUMBIANA -- Ken Wagenhouser scored a goal for the Rebels (5-6) on an assist from Jonathan Kinkead. Anthony Thornton scored for the Rockets (5-3).
