Demolition of shopping plaza scheduled to begin, broker says

AUSTINTOWN -- Demolition of the retail plaza at the southwest corner of Mahoning Avenue and state Route 46 is set to begin this week, according to Mike Camacci, the president and broker for Landmark Commercial Real Estate Services of Youngstown.
Landmark plans to build a 90,000-square-feet shopping plaza on the site. Camacci said the new plaza will include one large building as well as three smaller buildings.
The smaller buildings will house a restaurant, a retail pharmacy and a bank, Camacci said, while the larger building will be the site of, "something the community has been asking for, for quite some time." He would not name the businesses that will be housed in the plaza, and he said the cost of the project has not been determined.
In the past, the retail center housed Pizza Joe's and Monaco's restaurants, Dutchess Cleaners and Colla's grocery store.
Camacci said construction is expected to start this November or December and last through fall of 2002.
