GIRARD Father faces charges after tot is hospitalized

Police say more charges are expected.
GIRARD -- A 24-year-old Girard man accused of injuring his two children was being held today in the Trumbull County jail under $500,000 cash bond.
Municipal Judge Michael Bernard set a preliminary hearing this morning for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 26 for Bobby Lee Craven of 703 Trumbull Avenue on one count of child endangering.
Craven was arrested Tuesday night at Forum Health Northside Medical Center, where he had gone to visit his sons.
Capt. Frank Bigowsky and Detective John Norman reported that Northside contacted them Monday about a 20-month-old boy, Brandon Craven, who was brought to the hospital by his grandmother and Craven's mother, Ethel Smeltzer.
The hospital told police the boy had gone into cardiac arrest. He remains in Tod Children's Hospital with multiple bruises.
Although the boy's condition was not immediately available this morning, Bigowsky said Brandon was on a life-support system.
Smeltzer told police her son told her Brandon had fallen.
Older son: While the grandmother, also of the Trumbull address, was at the hospital, Craven stayed at home with his other son, Robert, 3.
The older boy was later taken to Northside by relatives, Bigowsky said, where doctors found old and new bruises on his back, buttock, face and legs. He also had a rash.
Forum Health, which operates Northside and Tod, was not releasing any information about the brothers today.
Trumbull County Children Services and the county prosecutor's office have joined the investigation.
Bigowsky said a hearing will be held in Trumbull County Family Court to determine if Robert should be placed in foster care.
He said other charges may be filed.
