Firefighters funds
Two bank accounts have been opened to assist the families of firefighters who have been killed or injured in their efforts to save lives at the World Trade Center. Donations can be made at any local branch of either Sky Bank or Key Bank in the tri-county area. Checks also can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at Austintown Township fire stations No. 1 on state Route 46 or No. 2 on Wickcliffe Circle.
Checks should be made payable to The New York Fire 911 Relief Fund.
Memorial books
Four Trumbull County funeral directors invite area residents to honor the victims of last week's attacks by signing and putting dedications in a memorial book.
The books are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside Joseph Rossi Funeral Home in Niles, McFarland & amp; Son Funeral Home and McCardell-White-McFarland Funeral Service in Warren, Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home in Hubbard and Madasz Funeral Home in Brookfield.
When the memorial books are filled, they will be given to the National Funeral Directors Association, which will determine where the books will be sent.
Red Cross donations
NILES -- The Trumbull County Red Cross will accept donations in center court of Eastwood Mall from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m Saturday.
All contributors will receive a card in which they can write a Message of Hope. The inspirational messages will be mailed to the New York Red Cross for distribution to search and recovery workers.
'Boot collection'
GIRARD -- Girard firefighters have set up collection cans at businesses in the city and will accept money at a boot collection Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at State and Liberty streets.

Efforts by pupils
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Hermitage school pupils are raising money to help the relief effort in New York City.
Superintendent Karen Ionta told the school board that Students for Charities and the National Honor Society collected money at Saturday's football game with Reynolds, netting $850.
Reynolds pupils had been collecting money as well and added that to the Hermitage pot, Ionta said. She didn't know the amount.
More fund-raising efforts are being planned by the Hermitage pupils, she said.
Memorial at fire station
NORTH JACKSON -- A memorial for fallen firefighters and police officers will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township fire station. Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 137 will attend with their color guard and honor guard. The public is invited.
911 Disaster Fund
BOARDMAN -- The American Heart Association will contribute $250,000 to the 911 Disaster Fund after more than 100 American Heart Walks take place around the nation this weekend. The fund, managed by the International Association of Firefighters, will be used to assist families of fallen firefighters and emergency personnel in New York City. About 775 such events are held each year.
Two local walks will take place simultaneously from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Boardman Township Park and at Cafaro Field in Niles.
Walkers can check in beginning at 8 a.m.

Talk on N.Y. recovery
YOUNGSTOWN -- Patrick Hughes, a Rural Metro paramedic who has just returned from the World Trade Center disaster site in New York, will discuss some of his observations concerning the relief and recovery effort there at the meeting of the Southern Boulevard Block Watch at 7 p.m. today at St. Dominic Parish Center, 3403 Southern Blvd. (the former St. Dominic School).
Memorial service
POLAND -- A public memorial service will be at 8 p.m. today at American Legion Mahoning Valley Post 15, 35 Cortland St., for victims of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington and the plane crash near Somerset, Pa.
Legionnaires and representatives of local government and police and fire departments will participate.
Those attending are asked to wear red, white and blue. Cash donations will be accepted for disaster relief.
