YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are investigating a shooting that sent a Youngstown man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to police reports, the 31-year-old Aberdeen Avenue man told police he was in bed asleep next to his wife when he was awakened by gunfire early Saturday.
The man said he pushed his wife to the floor before an intruder shot him.
The intruder, reports said, wore a dark, hooded sweat suit and ran through a back door after shooting the man.
His wife was not injured.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth's Health Center where he was in stable condition Saturday.
Several officers, however, remained at the home to protect the approximately 15 teen-age girls who were in the home for a sleepover at the time of the shooting. None of the girls was injured.
Officers noted several inconsistencies with the story told by the shooting victim: There was no blood found in the bed or bedroom were the man said he was shot; blood was found in parts of the house where the man said he had not been; the rear door the intruder was said to have used to escape the house was locked; and the back yard is enclosed by a 5-foot-high chain-link fence.
