Canfield edges Howland, 3-2; Brad McFadden leads Niles



CANFIELD -- Mark Pakula scored two goals as Canfield High defeated Howland 3-2 in a Metro Athletic Conference boys soccer match Thursday.
Matt Pietro also scored a goal for the Cardinals (2-2-1, 1-0 MAC).
Elliot Lunsdalg scored twice on penalty kicks for the Tigers.
Canfield keeper Mark Kime had six saves and Tom Barfay saved 16 shots for the Tigers.
Canfield took 30 shots in the match and Howland had just six.
Niles 2, Poland 1: POLAND -- Brad McFadden scored an unassisted goal 10 minutes into the second half, and he assisted on Donny Eckrote's score with about 12 minutes remaining to lead Niles (5-1-1, 2-0 MAC).
Goalkeeper Brett Gatta had seven saves.
Poland's goal was made by J.R. Fliss on an assist by Tom Rudnicki. The Bulldogs' (0-4-2, 0-1-1) goalkeeper, Josh Pridon, had five saves.
Girls: YOUNGSTOWN -- Ursuline and Warren Harding played to a 1-1 tie in a Steel Valley Conference match at Wick Recreation Area.
With an assist from sophomore Mallory Zappa, freshman Tiffany Walsh scored to give Ursuline (1-3-1, 0-1-1 SVC) a 1-0 lead.
Still in the first half, Allison Natale scored on a corner kick for Harding (4-2-1).
