Tours of the one-room schoolhouse museum are part of the festivities.
LORDSTOWN -- The village's largest community festival kicks off this weekend with food, fireworks, crafts and music. The 18th annual Lordstown Apple Cider Festival runs Friday through Sunday at Lordstown school grounds at Salt Springs Road and state Route 45. It generally attracts about 20,000 people, and there is no admission charge.
Opens Friday: The midway opens at 6 p.m. Friday, offering rides, games and a variety of food from french fries prepared by village firefighters to fresh apple cider pressed by the village Lions Club.
Lordstown Christian Church will serve a chicken dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gordon D. James Career Center. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.
Pageant: The king and queen pageant starts at 8 p.m. in the career center, and the music group Guys Without Ties will provide entertainment from 7 to 10 p.m. in the big tent.
Saturday begins with a tour of the Henn Workshops at 10 a.m., and the career center cosmetology department will sponsor a hair-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crafts: More than 75 crafters will show their wares, including quilts, flowers, fine arts, photography and culinary and domestic arts from noon to 8 p.m. in the career center.
The old one-room schoolhouse museum will open for tours from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The schoolhouse was moved last year from David and June Harrison's Salt Springs Road property to Founders Park on Salt Springs Road. The Harrisons donated the schoolhouse to the village historical society.
It's one of the village's three 19th-century one-room schoolhouses. It's believed to be at least 145 years old.
Car show: Saturday's activities also include a car show from noon to 3 p.m. and a mini-modified tractor pull starting at 3 p.m. Drivers from across the country are expected to compete in the tractor pull.
The day wraps up with fireworks at 10 p.m. by Zambelli Fireworks of New Castle.
Sunday starts with a 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. pancake brunch sponsored by Lordstown Music Boosters, and the annual parade starts at 3 p.m.
