SUCCESSOR
Mercer County
It will be up to the Mercer County Court of Common Pleas to pick a successor to finish Brian Shipley's two years and two months in office.
Because Shipley is a Republican, the court will have to select someone from the ranks of registered Republicans. President Judge Francis J. Fornelli said anyone interested in the job should submit a letter of interest along with a r & eacute;sum & eacute; to the office of the court administrator by 4 p.m. Nov. 6. The judges will interview applicants and make a selection.
The Mercer County Republican Party is expected to make a recommendation to the courts, but the selection is up to the judges.
The last county commissioner to resign also was a Republican. Bill Reznor quit in March 1995 to accept a job with the state and the courts appointed a former commissioner, John G. "Jerry" Johnson to complete the 10 months left in Reznor's term.
