Sylak reachesmilestone
YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior Rebecca Sylak of Mineral Ridge recorded her 1,000th career kill to help lead the Youngstown State volleyball team past West Virginia 30-27, 30-26, 28-30, 23-30, 15-10 Wednesday at Beeghly Center.
Senior Kristen Meech paced the Penguins with 16 kills and five blocks, while sophomore Annie Buschur added 13 kills. Senior Melissa Lyczkowski had 50 assists and 18 digs.
Junior Michele Batton came off the bench to spark Youngstown State (10-10) with seven kills and three aces in the last game.
Robert Morriswins, 2-1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Amanda Rambo and Dawn Schilling scored goals to lead Robert Morris past the Youngstown State women's soccer team 2-1 Wednesday at Stambaugh Stadium.
Freshman Hannah Lawther scored the Penguins' only goal off an assist from Chantel Grooms at 53:40. Senior goalkeeper Christine Handte collected 10 saves.
Youngstown State (1-16) will play at Loyola College on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Golf banquetpostponed
CAMPBELL -- The Campbell Golf League banquet originally scheduled for Nov. 3 has been pushed back a week to Nov. 10, at 6 p.m. at the Carovilessi Society club, 695 Marilyn Ave., next to the Burger King on McCartney Rd.

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College will be hosting the Presidents' Athletic Conference volleyball championship Friday and Saturday at the Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasium.
Washington & amp; Jefferson and Thiel play at 7 p.m. Friday.

*Michael Cwikala made a hole-in-one on the No. 6 hole at Bedford Trails Golf Course. The hole was 120 yards and the shot was witnessed by Marshall Cwikala.
*Jerry Ballack of Youngstown aced the par 3, 135-yard No. 6 with an 8-iron at Henry-Stambaugh Golf Course. Witnessed by Slick Cornich, Gene Barnes, Frank Scotchie and Felix Castilla. Ballack's last hole-in-one was 42 years ago.

BOSTON -- The Bruins traded Jason Allison, the fourth-leading scorer in the NHL last season, to Los Angeles along with Mikko Eloranta for forwards Glen Murray and Jozef Stumpel -- both of whom started their careers with Boston.
Allison, a contract holdout, hadn't played this season after leading the team with 36 goals and 95 points last year. The Kings reportedly gave him a three-year deal worth up to $20 million.
Eloranta had 12 goals and 11 assists in 62 games for Boston last season. Murray was leading the Kings in scoring with 11 points this year.
Stumpel had 16 goals and 39 assists for Los Angeles last season.
Gold medalistreleased on bond
LOS ANGELES -- Olympic gold medalist Jon Drummond was released on $20,000 bail after being arrested on suspicion of transporting marijuana. Drummond was a member of the U.S. 400-meter relay team that won a gold medal in the Sydney Games.

*BASEL, Switzerland -- Top-ranked Gustavo Kuerten lost his fifth straight match when he was beaten by Julien Boutter 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the opening round of the $1 million Swiss Indoors.
Sixth-seeded Andy Roddick defeated Stephan Huet 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5) in the first round.
George Bastl advanced to the second round when eighth-seeded Jan-Michael Gambill withdrew with a sore right shoulder.
*STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Qualifier Jarkko Nieminen, one of Finland's best tennis prospects, upset seventh-seeded Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco 6-3, 6-1 to reach the Stockholm Open quarterfinals.
*ST. PETERSBURG, Russia -- Top-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero lost to Germany's Rainer Schuettler 7-6 (8), 6-4 in the first round at the $800,000 St. Petersburg Open.

*LINZ, Austria -- Third-seeded Jelena Dokic advanced to the quarterfinals of the $565,000 Generali Ladies Linz tournament, struggling to a 7-6 (3), 6-7 (6), 6-3 victory over Iva Majoli.
Fourth-seeded Nathalie Tauziat lost 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 to Chanda Rubin in the second round.
*LUXEMBOURG -- Third-seeded Amanda Coetzer of South Africa beat Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the $170,000 SEAT Open.
Coetzer will next play Kveta Hrdlickova, who edged Lubomira Bacheva 7-6 (3), 6-3.
