GIRLS SECTIONAL SOCCER Roberts leads JFK past Girard, 3-0



JFK will play Champion in a district semifinal Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
WARREN -- Katie Roberts scored twice as Warren JFK High defeated Girard 3-0 Saturday, in a girls Division II sectional soccer tournament final.
Lauren Natale also scored for the second-seeded Eagles (13-3-1). Girard is 9-9.
Roberts scored an unassisted goal with the match about 5 minutes old. Roberts scored off an assist by Jessica Ashdown to make it 2-0 early in the second half.
Kristen Sylvester assisted on the Natale goal late in the match.
JFK will play Champion in a district semifinal Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Michelle Rossio had seven saves in goal for JFK while Girard keeper Angela DiPiero had 13 saves.
In other sectional finals Saturday:
Champion 2, Lakeview 0: CORTLAND -- Christa Andamasaris scored a pair of goals to lead Champion High to a 2-0 victory over Lakeview in the Division II sectional championship game here Saturday.
Andamasaris scored one goal in each half for the Flashes, while Kate Gintert assisted on her second goal.
The Flashes, who improved to 12-5 on the season, got eight saves from goal keeper Liz Wood. Lakeview's goal keeper Megan Gilmore had four saves.
The Flashes will advance to meet Warren JFK Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at JFK in the first round of the district tournament.
Hubbard 5, Liberty 0: HUBBARD -- Hubbard moved on to district tournament play with a shutout win over Liberty in Div. II action.
The Eagles were led by Jamie Duvall with three goals, while Angela Baca added one and Anna DeJulio had one goal and one assist. Jamie Rigney contributed two assists for the Eagles, now 14-2-1 on the year.
Hubbard goal keeper Lynle Cornell had three saves and Liberty's Rachael Tharp made 14 saves.
Hubbard will play Cardinal Mooney Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Hubbard in a district semifinal.
Mooney 3, Salem 1: YOUNGSTOWN -- Katie Vinopal had two goals and Amy Edwards contributed one goal and one assist, while Sara Wright added an assist and goalie Adrianne Detesco 10 saves, to pace Mooney (13-2-2) at the Cardinals' field.
Angela Ventresco had Salem's only goal while goalie Matte DeJane had nine saves. Salem is 1-12-4.
Mooney will play at Hubbard Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Div. I -- Hoover 4, Fitch 0: CANTON -- Amanda Waltz, Aleesha Denmeade and Tricia Lilly scored the first-half goals for North Canton Hoover (15-2-1) while Alysa Plakas tacked on the fourth goal in the second half in a Division I sectional championship game Saturday.
Lilly assisted on Waltz' goal for Hoover, which took 24 shots-on-goal to Fitch's 14. Junior goalkeeper Alison Chasko had 10 saves for Fitch (9-6-3) while Ashley Muffet had eight saves for Hoover.
