Change in venue
The Fitch High girls soccer team will travel to North Canton Hoover for a Division I sectional final game Saturday at 1 p.m. It was previously scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fitch.
Ex-Penguinsat Ice Zone
BOARDMAN -- Former Pittsburgh Penguins Grant Jennings and Warren Young will be special guests of the Mothers' Hope Foundation/Make a Wish Foundation ice hockey benefit Saturday at the Ice Zone.
A "Make a Wish" child from Boardman will serve as coach along with Jennings and Young.
The Youngstown State University hockey team will play the Northeast Ohio High School All-Stars consisting of members of the Canfield, Boardman, Mooney, Ursuline, Poland and North Canton Hoover high teams.
Tickets cost $5 and will be available at the door. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Opening faceoff will be at 7:30 p.m.

Mountaineerto raise funds
CHESTER, W. Va. -- Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort will join with the Hancock County Firefighter's Association in an effort to raise funds for families of three New York firefighters who lost their lives during the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center.
Entitled the 'Proud To Be An American/Salute to Our Heroes,' the benefit will take place Monday from 4 p.m. until 7. Local firemen will be conducting a boot collection at each of the hotel and race track entrances with Mountaineer to match all donations collected.

ALLIANCE -- Mount Union College named Mark W. Berger as an assistant men's basketball coach for the 2001-02 season.
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati majoring in criminal justice, Berger was a student assistant-team manager for the Bearcats' men's basketball program from 1996-2001.

COLUMBIANA -- Leetonia blanked Lowellville 6-0 to capture the Mahoning Valley Junior Football League championship.
In the consolation game, Crestview topped Western Reserve 6-0.
Columbiana clipped Crestview 8-0 for the junior varsity title and Western Reserve trimmed Leetonia 14-6 in the consolation game.

NEW YORK -- An NFL arbitrator ruled that the Buffalo Bills must pay former coach Wade Phillips for the final year of his contract.
Phillips, who had one season left on his contract, was dismissed in January for refusing to fire special teams coach Ronnie Jones, who's unit finished ranked last in the league in four categories.

*STUTTGART, Germany -- U.S. Open champion Lleyton Hewitt kept alive his bid to become No. 1 in the world and stretched his winning streak to 16 matches by beating Guillermo Canas at the Stuttgart Masters Series.
Hewitt rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory to reach the quarterfinals. He needs to win the event to become the top-ranked player for the first time.
Also, Max Mirnyi withstood two match points and 31 aces to topple Goran Ivanisevic, Pete Sampras rallied to beat Marcelo Rios, defending champion Wayne Ferreira saved two match points to pass eighth-seeded Sebastien Grosjean, and Thomas Enqvist overcame a match point to upset 14th seed Andy Roddick.
*ZURICH, Switzerland -- Swiss teenager Marie-Gaiane Mikaelian beat Russian Tatiana Panova in straight sets at the Swiss Challenge, setting up a quarterfinals match with new world No. 1 Jennifer Capriati.
The 17-year-old Mikaelian, ranked 105th and playing in her first Tier 1 event, beat seventh-seeded Elena Dementieva in straight sets .
