Local VFW sponsors youth essay contest
District Eight VFW and Auxiliary is sponsoring the National VFW and Auxiliary annual Voice of Democracy audio-essay script-writing competition.
The theme for this year's 55th annual event is "Reaching Out to America's Future." Students in grades nine-12 can win scholarships and awards. Entry deadline is Nov. 2.
The National Youth Essay Competition is conducted jointly for pupils in grades seven and eight. Its theme is "Is Freedom Really Free?" Entry deadline is Dec. 1. For information about either competition, contact local VFW posts or auxiliaries or call Wanda Thompson at (330) 872-5099.
