LIBERTY -- The newly remodeled post office at the township administration building officially opens Thursday.
Darlene St. George, township administrator, said trustees and U.S. Postal Service officials from Akron and Youngstown will take part in the grand opening at 10:30 a.m.
At a cost of $14,800, two rooms -- the work area and a break room -- were combined into one work area and the counter was made handicapped accessible.
The facility has been operated at the township administration building since 1979 and does about $500,000 in business annually, St. George said.
The facility has one full-time and two part-time clerks who are paid by the township.
Open all day: The post office is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and is no longer closed for a half-hour lunch. It's also open from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
The post office also will be selling phone cards and other retail items, and a credit-card machine will be installed.
St. George also announced that, beginning Thursday, the administration building will not be closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch.
Residents will be able to get zoning permits or police reports during their own lunch hours.
Township employees' lunch hours will be staggered so that the building can remain open for better access to the public.
