NEW WILMINGTON Westminster plans events for homecoming

Distinguished alumni will be honored at weekend activities.
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Football, floats and old friends are all planned for next weekend's homecoming and reunion at Westminster College.
The class of 1951 will be welcomed at 1 p.m. Friday by the Golden Tower Society in Ferguson Lounge.
Other alumni can see recent campus changes on a guided tour at 3 p.m., as well as meeting distinguished alumni including: Stephen Gettings, 1979 graduate and coordinator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; Stephen R. King, a 1991 alumnus who is vice president and chief technology officer at inifNET Solutions; and Peter M. Audino, a 1997 graduate who is vice president of global sales for IBM Printing Solutions.
Dinner planned: Other distinguished alumni will be honored at the annual Citation Celebration Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Russell Dining Hall. The Westminster College Alumni Citation recognizes alumni who have achieved significant accomplishments in their profession.
Those featured will be James W. Canan, a 1951 journalism major who has won several national writing awards; Joanne Stone Morrissey, a 1969 graduate who is an adjunct professor at Kent State University and founder of The Vita Fund, which benefits the victims of the World Trade Center disaster; Matthew Mangino, Lawrence County district attorney, who graduated in 1985; and Paul D. Trokhan, a 1968 chemistry major who holds 133 U.S. patents and has an additional 30 pending. He works as a development engineer for Procter & amp; Gamble.
Schedule: Saturday's activities begin at 8 a.m. in the hospitality tents on the senior terrace, followed by breakfast with the books lecture by James R. Heinrich, a 1976 graduate, who will talk about reading. A homecoming parade follows at 10 a.m. and a picnic at 11:30 a.m.
A football game against the Thiel Tomcats is planned for 1:30 p.m. and there will be reunion dinners throughout the evening.
A worship service at 10:30 a.m. next Sunday at the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church will end the weekend.
