HOLIDAY KICKOFF Santa Claus to arrive in Girard on Saturday

GIRARD -- Greater Girard Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual holiday kickoff from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in front of the old Wellman Theater on West Liberty Street.
Santa Claus will arrive by firetruck, starting from the fire station on East Liberty Street, crossing over U.S. Route 422 and down West Liberty to the theater.
He will be escorted by the high school marching band for the first time, said Heidi Redmond, chairman of the event.
Refreshments will be served in front of the theater building, and children can have their pictures taken with Santa for $5.
Also planned are carriage and trolley rides.
Diane Fritz, children's librarian at the Girard Free Library, will read stories to the kids on the trolley rides from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The trolley rides cost $1 for adults and for children over age 10. Children 10 and under ride free.
The horse-drawn carriage rides are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
The chamber also will raffle off a holiday basket filled with $1,000 worth of gifts.
Tickets will be available from Redmond in front of the old theater building.
