The coaches: Ed DiGregorio is 302-204 in 18 seasons at YSU; Roxanne Allen is in her fifth season with the Zips and carries a 46-74 record. Her career mark is 161-165 in 13 years.
YSU starters: Maggie Johnston, 5-5 junior guard, 13.0 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game; Monica Vicarel, 5-8 senior guard, 7.5, 2.0; Jenny Horner, 6-2 senior center, 9.0, 9.0; Jen Perugini, 6-2 freshman forward, 12.0, 13.5; Heather Harris, 6-0 sophomore forward, 18, 6.5.
Akron starters: Lindsay Hemmelgarn, 5-8 freshman, 5.0 ppg, 22.5 rpg; Raegan Johnson, 5-9 junior, 6.0, 5.8; Dominique Harris, 5-8 sophomore, 16.3, 2.3; Kimberly Larson, 6-1 senior, 7.5, 5.3; Felecia Bell, 6-1, junior, 2.5, 0.5.
Scouting reports: The Penguins posted their first victory of the season on Saturday, beating Kent State University 79-64 at Beeghly Center. It was YSU's final home game this year as Wednesday's contest with Akron is the first of a nine-game road trip for the Penguins. The Zips are coming off a 72-64 victory over East Tennessee State in the consolation game of the Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla. This will be YSU's third straight game against a Mid-American Conference team; the Penguins lost to Bowling Green in their season opener, 71-61.
The series: This will be the 40th meeting between the teams, with the Penguins holding a 29-10 advantage. YSU won last year's contest 89-61 at home and has won five straight over the Zips.
