SHARPSVILLE, PA. Contract awarded for bleacher repairs

The district will have to borrow at least part of the money for the work.

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- The Sharpsville Area School Board has awarded a $280,197 contract for major bleacher repairs at the high school football field, but there's one problem: There's no money allocated in the budget to pay for it.
Dr. Derry Stufft, superintendent, said the board has voted to hire Jim Santiago Builders of Washingtonville, Ohio, to do the job, and it is to be finished by June 13.
Stufft said the district will probably have to borrow some of the money, and there are plans to secure donations and contributions to cover part of the expense.
The project calls for the replacement of the bleachers on the home side of the field and renovation of the visitors' section, he said.
Other project: The board also voted to spend just over $200,000 to renovate the Seventh Street Elementary School as the district's new administrative office building.
Seventh Street is being closed this weekend as all elementary pupils will attend the new Sharpsville Area Elementary School on Quarry Way, adjacent to the high school-middle school complex.
Stufft said there is money on hand to pay for the Seventh Street school work. It's coming out of the $13 million elementary school construction budget.
Contracts awarded were: $79,700 to Hudson Construction Inc. of Hermitage for general construction; $76,600 to Sheehan Plumbing & amp; Heating of Sharpsville for heating and air conditioning; $50,980 to Penn-Ohio Electric Co. of Masury for electrical work; and $5,500 to Shipley Plumbing of Cranberry Township for plumbing work.
The job includes tearing out one wall, making a restroom accessible to people with disabilities, converting the library to a board meeting room and various other small items.
The office area should be ready for occupancy by mid-February, Stufft said, adding that some rental tenants, including the Creative Pre-School, Head Start and Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV programs, will move into the rest of the building in December.
The board also announced a dedication ceremony and open house for the new elementary school will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 2.
