NORTH LIMA -- Students at South Range High School will be benefiting from a $200,000 state grant designed to integrate "real-world technologies" into the district's curriculum.
Wendy Carothers, school technology coordinator, and Terry Duncko, the high school librarian, explained the new program to the board of education at its meeting Monday.
The money will be used for computer hardware and software and defraying the cost of installation.
Career fields: The equipment will give students hands-on experience at careers such as weather monitoring, multimedia production and computer-aided design. There are 12 different career choices.
The new gear will also give students experience in 12 different information technologies, including Web page design, computer troubleshooting and digital photography.
In addition to using the computer programs, students will work with mentors from the community who are in the careers the students will be studying.
All high school students will complete at least one semester of the real world technologies course before graduation, they said.
The board commended Carothers, Duncko and Dennis Dunham, the high school principal, for obtaining and implementing the grant.
