YOUNGSTOWN -- The last of Richard Goldberg's cars will go on the auction block for sale to the highest bidder next month.
His house and most of its contents go up for sale the next day.
Proceeds of the sales will be used to satisfy creditors who have filed claims against Goldberg in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, said trustee Ann Piergo Silagy of Canton.
Goldberg, 56, of Liberty Township, is a former medical malpractice attorney. He is serving 57 months in a federal prison for pocketing millions of dollars that should have gone to his former clients for lawsuit settlements.
State prison's next: When the federal sentence is finished, Goldberg faces an additional 21 months in a state prison for concealing assets that should have been used to pay back his victims.
Goldberg has also been indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury on three counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, 20 counts of forgery, six counts of theft and two counts of taking the identity of another. His trial is scheduled for February in common pleas court and is expected to take about two weeks.
He filed for bankruptcy protection in January, and Silagy has been working since then to sort out his estate and liquidate assets to repay victims.
Some of Goldberg's vehicles were sold in an auction about two years ago. There are a few others, though, that will be sold Dec. 7 at a storage building on Middle Drive, Silagy said.
Some office equipment and recreational vehicles, such as a snowmobile, will also be sold, she said.
Home to be auctioned: The next day, Goldberg's home on Royal Arms Drive, Girard, will be auctioned. Goldberg's wife still lives there, but has agreed to move out by Dec. 1, Silagy said.
Friday was the deadline for creditors to contact the bankruptcy court and stake their claim to some of the assets. Silagy said several creditors had filed claims, though she did not immediately have access to how many or the total claims.
That information will be available early next week, she said.
