MEETING ROUNDUP School boards Business matters handled by area school boards Thursday:

WEST BRANCH
UApproved a resolution to start annexation proceedings for land owned in Smith Township. Pending approval, the land will be annexed to Beloit so that all school property contiguous to the high school area will be in the village. Currently, part of the high school land is in Beloit, and the other part is in Smith Township. The move is necessary before the district begins renovation and expansion in the spring. Keith Martig, board president, added the groundbreaking for the district's new schools and renovation is set for mid-March. The Ohio School Facilities Commission will oversee the project.
UInstructed treasurer Karen Elsner to seek bids to buy up to three school buses and also increase the spending limits for the district's credit cards to $3,000 per card.
UHired Barb Peters as the adviser for Students Against Driving Drunk at the rate of $600 per year, and named Nikki Woolf as a drug-free education instructor at $15 per hour. Both positions are funded through a Drug Free Schools Grant.
URecognized teachers Amy Beniston and Scott Bates for obtaining a $455 state education grant for their team approach to teaching science. The money will be used to buy extra materials to teach simple machines in a hands-on approach.
