Farm gives evergreens to help U.S. troops celebrate holidays

Friday, November 16, 2001

Several evergreen trees are harvested from Pioneer Trails Tree Farm in Poland as part of a project that will help American troops stationed in Bosnia and Kosovo celebrate Christmas. The trees will be donated to the troops through "Operation Evergreen -- Ohio Christmas trees Overseas," a project sponsored by the Ohio Christmas Tree Association. At top, Stan Clingerman, of North Lima, left, and Bob Bakalik, of Youngstown, cut one of the trees from the 30-acre farm. Clingerman is a past commander and Bakalik is current commander of American Legion Post 15 in Poland. At right, Frank Perdulla, Pioneer Trails Tree farm owner, carries one of the trees that will be donated.
