City council to voteon backing redistricting
WARREN -- City council will vote tonight on a resolution to support the proposal that Trumbull County split from the 17th Congressional District.
Trumbull County commissioners and leaders from communities in the county plan to send a letter to Gov. Bob Taft listing the advantages of redistricting to separate Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Mahoning and Columbiana counties and most of Trumbull County make up the district.
Officials have said that splitting Mahoning and Trumbull counties could pair Mahoning and Columbiana with Jefferson and Belmont counties and Trumbull with Lake, Ashtabula and part of Cuyahoga.
A split would enable Warren to be the largest city in its new district, giving it a better shot at federal funding.
A redistricting plan is expected to be announced in February. Ohio will lose a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives because of a population decrease.
