Man is shot, reportsburglary to police
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Drummond Avenue man refused to discuss with police how he got shot in the head and hand, then called police a half-hour later to report that his home was burglarized.
The 24-year-old, bleeding on his head and hand, was encountered by police responding to gunfire at Shehy Street and Lincoln Place at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, reports say.
The man told officers that he had been shot, but refused to talk or be examined by medical personnel, reports say.
He returned home to find a front window broken and a 9mm handgun missing, reports say.
Students to presentupdate on watershed
WARREN -- International Baccalaureate students from Harding High School will update the public on the condition of the local watershed.
An evening reception is planned for 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the school media center.
Students have worked with faculty from Kent State University, Trumbull County Health Department and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency over the last two years to collect data on the Mahoning River.
Refreshments will be served.
House ransacked
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 58-year-old Midland Avenue man returned home from a five-day hospital stay to discover his house ransacked and a handgun and prescription medication, including OxyCotin and Valium, stolen.
A coin collection and $900 cash also were taken, the victim told police Saturday.
Beaver crime watch
NORTH LIMA -- The Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 in Shepherd of the Valley activity center, 9111 Sharrott Road.
Lt. Brian Girts, commander of the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, will speak to the public on identity crimes and thefts.
He will provide information on how to keep someone from stealing your identity and charging items on your credit card account.
Self-defense class
CANFIELD -- The city police department offers a women's self-defense class from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the community building in Fair Park.
Personal Response Options and Tactically Effective Counter Techniques will be taught by Sgt. Bob Magnuson and officers Jim Schmidt and Jim Conrad.
There is no charge.
An optional instruction book is $12.
The class is open to those 14 and older.
Teens 14 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Class size is limited to 60.
