Cops say man took cabto and from burglaries
HUBBARD -- City police are preparing burglary charges against a man who uses a taxi to get around.
Detective Robert Altiere said today Daniel Hiles, 47, of Milton Boulevard, faces six counts of burglary that will be presented to the Trumbull County grand jury.
Hiles has already been bound over to the Mahoning County grand jury on 16 similar charges.
Altiere said Hiles was dropped off by a cabdriver Sept. 26 at Truck World where he broke into six businesses.
He then called a taxi to get a ride out of the area.
The cabby has identified Hiles as the man who rode in his taxi, Altiere said.
Classes for military
WARREN -- All veterans and active duty military personnel are invited to take part in free classes Monday at the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave.
Identification such as dog tags or military photos are required.
Participants can take part in coed and women's-only fitness studios, as well as aerobic and aquatic programs.

Mayan priest to speakat Trumbull campus
CHAMPION -- A Mayan priest and timekeeper in the Jaguar Clan of the Quiche Maya will lecture from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Kent State University Trumbull Campus.
The campus cultural diversity council is one sponsor for the event in Lecture Hall A in the administration building.
"Alom" Ahau Tze'ec Ba'lam will speak about "An Understanding of Present Day Events as Recorded by the Tzol'kin Mayan Calendar." His lineage can be traced over 50 generations.
Refreshments will be provided, courtesy of Trail of Dreams, a Native American store in Champion owned by Nancy Bottiglieri, vice president of the Red Hawk American Indian Cultural Society, another sponsor.
Participants are encouraged to bring their drums and rattles to learn Mayan drum beats and chants after the lecture.
Admission is one nonperishable food item to be donated to the Salvation Army.
Mill schedule changes
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lanterman's Mill in Mill Creek MetroParks resumes its fall schedule, opening from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays this month.
The season will end with the MetroParks annual tribute to the holidays, An Olde Fashioned Christmas, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 24-25.

KENT -- Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown is host for the annual Voice of Hope Dinner for Catholic Charities, starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the ballroom on the main campus of Kent State University.
Bishop Anthony M. Pilla, bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland, is the speaker. Proceeds will provide winter utility assistance to needy families through Catholic Charities agencies in the Youngstown diocese. FOE headquartersin suburban Columbus
COLUMBUS (AP) -- The Fraternal Order of Eagles has chosen a site in suburban Grove City for its first consolidated international headquarters in the group's 103-year history.
The group broke ground Tuesday for the $2.5 million facility, which it expects to occupy by March.
In the past, the organization has divided its work among offices in cities throughout the nation, including Columbus, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee and Englewood, Colo.
Search reveals drugs
YOUNGSTOWN -- Deputies confiscated a bag of suspected marijuana and a drug pipe Tuesday from the purse of a 29-year-old East Side woman attempting to enter the Mahoning County Child Support Enforcement Agency on West Commerce Street.
Deputies said the items were found about 3:30 p.m. during a search of the woman's purse as she walked through a metal detector in the lobby.
The Wilson Avenue woman was issued citations and released.
