STRUTHERS Burglaries center on Yellow Creek area

Assorted items were taken, varying from bikes to yard equipment.
STRUTHERS -- The city suffered a rash of break-ins, thefts and attempted thefts within about a half-mile area near Yellow Creek Park on Tuesday.
Police received eight complaints of break-ins and thefts over more than 15 hours as people discovered the crimes. Complaints were logged on Poland Avenue, Hopewell Drive, Harvey Avenue, East Omar Avenue and Yellow Creek Circle.
Two mountain bikes and a set of golf clubs were taken from a Hopewell Drive shed. A dirt bike and 100 compact discs were stolen from an SUV there, and yard equipment was taken from a shed.
Police said the SUV was unlocked.
A vehicle in an unlocked garage on Poland Avenue also was damaged.
Nothing stolen: Burglars were thwarted in two instances on Poland Avenue:
UPolice responded to an alarm at Stanton's Market, 124 Poland Ave., but nothing was reported stolen. A side door showed signs of attempted entry.
UA boarded-up garage window at a home in the 400 block of Poland Avenue protected that property from a break-in. Police found a lighter near the window and logged it as evidence.
A home under construction on Yellow Creek Circle suffered four broken windows.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation was called in to assist police.
"It was extremely unusual to be hit this hard, this many times," said Struthers Police Chief Robert Norris.
He said the investigation is a priority. Police have no suspects.
In the meantime, Norris advised people to use lighting to deter thieves and to call police to report unusual circumstances.
