Councilman leaves meeting after pledge

CRAIG BEACH -- A village councilman walked out of a special meeting Tuesday night saying he felt the public was not notified the meeting would take place.
Councilman Dennis Champion said he left the special council meeting after the pledge of allegiance.
Village officials sent a press release to The Vindicator Monday afternoon announcing the meeting. A meeting notice was in Tuesday's editions.
Council met for the second reading of a proposal to pass a 1-percent income tax.
The meeting was attended by three of the five council members. Champion said Councilman Larry Ellis did not attend the meeting.
Both Ellis and Champion have expressed opposition to the income tax.
Craig Beach Mayor Camille Gaia III has said the village would need to pass the income tax by July to avoid going into debt.
A vote on the third and final reading for the proposal is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in the municipal building.
