Cards qualify for coaches tournament



CANFIELD -- The Canfield High tennis team defeated North Canton Hoover 3-2 Tuesday to win the Northeast Ohio District final and qualify for the coaches-sponsored state tournament.
Chris Kuppler and Noah Weiss won singles matches, while the doubles team of Zach Puskar and Kevin Kuppler won against North Canton Hoover.
Scoreboard: Chris Kuppler defeated Pedro Drummond, 6-4, 6-3, while Weiss defeated Joe Grande, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Puskar-Kuppler defeated the Hoover team of Dave Kuhlman-Justin Doyle, 6-1, 6-2.
Canfield's Shalin Shah lost a singles match to Hoover's Scott Green, 6-4, 6-3. The Cardinals' double team of Dave Vodhanel and R.T. Vernal were defeated by Bob Allensworth and Raheen Choudry, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
Canfield (21-0) will be one of four teams competing in Sunday's state team tournament at the Ohio State University Stickney Tennis Center.
