Fund-raiser successful
YOUNGSTOWN -- So far, amounts raised from this year's Boardman and Columbiana Relay for Life events have equaled or exceeded last year's totals. The relays, which were Friday and Saturday, benefit the American Cancer Society.
The relay at Boardman Center Middle School raised $290,000; last year's event pulled in $275,000. Columbiana's figures for both years were about $61,000. With money still coming in, the totals are not final, according to Al Stabilito, local ACS communications director.
Boardman's event had 170 teams, and 30 teams participated in the Columbiana race. Each team had from 10 to 15 members.
The next Relay for Life fund-raiser will be at 6 p.m. June 8 at Mangano Memorial Park, East Liverpool. Participants should arrive one hour early for check-in.
