DIVISION II TRACK & amp; FIELD Salem freshman Jesko stuns Casi in two district events

SALEM -- The biggest surprise of the Division II district track and field meet at Salem High was Salem freshman Lizzie Jesko, who won the 100 meters in 12.5 seconds and 200 in 25.9.
Defending champion Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas won with 89 points. Southeast finished second with 791/2.
Canton Central Catholic captured the boys crown with 90 points, and Ursuline came in second with 67.
In upsetting two-time state qualifier Alex Casi of East Palestine, who finished second in the 100 (12.6) and 200 (26.0), Jesko said, "It was the first time I beat her in three meetings.
"I just want to place in both races, but I really wanted to beat her," Jesko said. "I had a lot of strength left down the stretch in both races."
Jesko also anchored the Quakers' 4x100 relay that finished second.
Casi won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 9 inches.
Moving on: The top four placers in each event qualified for next week's regional meet at Kent Roosevelt High.
Georgiann Pavlich of Poland defended her title in the 100 hurdles (15.3 seconds) and 300 hurdles (46.3). She also anchored the Bulldogs' winning 4x100 relay (51.3).
"I achieved everything I wanted to do today," Pavlich said. "The 300 was a tough race, but with three hurdles left, I kicked it in."
Talking about the high hurdles, she said, "I got into my stride at the third hurdle and was hoping to keep that title. My momentum and adrenaline were there, and now I want to win again at next week's regional."
Distance: West Branch sophomore Lisa Davies won the 3200 (11:34.8) and placed third in the 1600 (5:23.6).
"I died on the last lap of the mile," Davies said, "but in the 3200, I passed people, got out in front and that helped. It takes a lot of hard work and mental preparation to do that."
Lloyd Hewlett (22.5) and Ed Petuah (22.6), both of Wilson, placed one-two in the 200. Hewlett was second in the 100 (11.1).
"We always seem to run our best when we run against each other," Hewlett said. "I got a decent start in the [200], came out strong and had it left down the stretch.
"The next step is the regional and hopefully a trip to state."
Boys: Andy Satterfield of East Palestine took first place in the 800 (1:58.1), which broke the Bulldogs' school record of 1:58.2.
He took the lead after about 50 meters and pulled away from second-place Joe Taylor of Mooney, who finished in 2:01.4.
"I knew I had to stretch it out and push myself," Satterfield said. "I want to set our school record and just do my very best."
John Bartos of Ursuline was a double winner. He had a season-best effort in winning the shot put with a throw of 51-101/2. He won the discus with a throw of 170-4 Wednesday.
"I had my best throw this season and am excited about the regional," Bartos said. "I will have to try for at least 52 [feet] to have a chance at state."
Adam Chatman of the Irish won the 110 hurdles (15.0) and was second in the 300 hurdles (38.7). The Ursuline 4x400 relay won in 3:25.7.
