River consortium to unveil sign

STRUTHERS -- A sign will be unveiled at the next Mahoning River Consortium meeting, 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Yellow Creek Park, 19 Lowellville Road. The sign, designed by an MRC member, features fish common to the Mahoning River before the iron and steel age.
Speakers will include Dr. Jim Shanahan of Youngstown State University's Center for Urban Studies and Holly Burnett, a community activist and MRC member. Shanahan will discuss a $93,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant that calls for implementing a river corridor revitalization strategy.
MRC volunteers seek to achieve a balance between environmental, economic and social needs of the community and promote practical uses of the river and its watershed. For more information, call Patricia Natali at (330) 385-8447.
