NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A New Galilee man was in critical condition this morning at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, from injuries he suffered in a crash Tuesday at state Route 18 and Pa. Route 168 in North Beaver Township.
The Pennsylvania State Police said Richard I. Musguire, 77, was eastbound on Route 168 about 11:30 a.m. when he stopped at Route 18. He then pulled in front of a tractor-trailer driven by Robert Dougherty, 56, of Rimersburg, Pa., which was southbound on Route 18.
Dougherty's rig hit Musguire's pickup truck and pushed it into a car driven by Lois J. Carson of New Galilee. Carson's car was stopped on Route 168.
State police said Musguire was taken by helicopter to Allegheny General. Carson was treated at St. Francis Hospital. Troopers said she suffered minor injuries and they did not have her age.
Theft from porchin Jackson Township
JACKSON CENTER, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said someone stole $2,400 worth of items from the front porch of a home on McCurdy Road in Jackson Township.
Two chain saws, a pair of leather chaps, a safety helmet and a tool belt were stolen between 8 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday.
Pine Township womanreports she was raped
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- A Pine Township woman has told Pennsylvania State Police she was attacked and raped by a man who kicked in the door of her home.
The victim told police the white man, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds, broke in around 3:45 a.m. Sunday.
The man took her credit card and driver's license, she said.
Vets at Forest Lawn
BOARDMAN -- Families and friends of veterans buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery on Market Street should pick up flag holders and markers to be put on graves before Saturday, when flags will be placed on graves by members of veterans organizations.
AIDS consortium
CANFIELD -- The Ryan White Consortium, a regional planning group funded by the Ryan White C.A.R.E. Act and overseen by the Ohio Department of Health, meets the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Ursuline Center, 4250 Shields Road, Canfield. The consortium, which is responsible for the coordination of HIV outpatient health care and support services for Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Jefferson counties, also collaborates with the regional HIV prevention planning group in a coalition known as Valley HIV Coalition. Environmental grant
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Northeast Ohio Camp Fire Council received a $11,690 Ohio Environmental Education Fund grant through the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to develop an interactive summer education program to help 45 inner-city students between the ages of 5 and 10 improve their science grades. The program will emphasize the human and environmental interrelationship through topics such as geology and topology, grasslands, wetlands, deserts, skulls and skeletons, energy, reptiles, habitats and careers.
Beaver Twp. patrols
NORTH LIMA -- Starting May 25, and continuing through June 4, more Beaver Township Police officers will be patrolling area roads and highways for violators of Ohio's child passenger and safety belt laws.
"The goal of our heightened enforcement efforts is to increase safety belt usage and to save lives," said Chief Carl N. Frost. "Last year, more than half of all Ohioans who died on our roadways in motor vehicle crashes were unbuckled. While a safety belt may not have prevented all of these deaths, experts predict it would save many."
