MERCER Man who fought police is sentenced

Another man will be jailed for writing checks on another person's account.
MERCER, Pa. -- A Farrell man who admitted fighting with several police officers during a routine traffic stop last year has been sentenced to two months to two years at Mercer County Jail.
During sentencing Wednesday, Judge Francis Fornelli gave Thaddeus Phillips 18 days credit for time already served.
Phillips, 28, of Negley Street, was originally charged with aggravated assault, obstructing the law, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
In April he pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, and the remaining charges were dismissed.
Authorities said police stopped Phillips Nov. 11 along West Budd Street in Sharon. They said he got out of his car and began fighting with Sharon police officers.
Bad checks: In an unrelated case, Terrence Lee Crumby, 27, of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, was sentenced to one month to two years at the county jail. In April he had pleaded guilty to theft by deception.
Authorities said that between August and Oct. 6, 1999, Crumby wrote four checks and withdrew $800 from someone else's checking account.
Crumby, who was originally charged with theft by failure to make required disposition and five counts of theft by deception, admitting writing four checks, but said he thought the money was being drawn from his account.
