McDonald school board awards construction contracts

McDONALD -- The board of education awarded contracts Thursday for site and foundation work for the construction of an elementary school behind the stadium facing Seventh Street.
Rhino Excavating & amp; Milling Inc. of Niles will remove trees and dirt, dig the foundation and construct walls. Its bid of $475,077 was the lowest of 12.
Masonry Materials Plus of Youngstown will provide foundation brick for $48,042. The only bid on that portion, Masonry's quote came in $18,458 below estimates.
The 10-acre site is part of 16 acres owned by the board, which includes the high school and the stadium.
The new elementary, estimated to cost $7.5 million, is part of a $16.5 million construction and renovation project, $14.5 million of which is coming from the state and $2 million from a local bond issue. Roosevelt Elementary School will be demolished as part of the plan.
