Man pleads guilty to sex charges

WARREN -- A 47-year-old Newton Falls man has pleaded guilty to numerous sex charges involving children.
Charles Trader entered guilty pleas to 15 charges Wednesday before Judge W. Wyatt McKay in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
The charges include 10 counts of gross sexual imposition, four counts of disseminating material harmful to a minor and one count of pandering of sexually oriented material involving a minor.
Trader, who is in the county jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond, will be sentenced after a background check by the county adult probation department.
He faces up to 25 years in prison, court officials said.
Thomas Wrenn, an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, said Trader is accused of showing pornographic movies to children and forcing some to perform sexual acts while others watched.
In exchange for his guilty plea, officials agreed to dismiss six counts of rape.
Wrenn said the victims were four girls and one boy, who ranged in age from 2 to 16. He added that the offenses occurred during the last six months of 1999.
Recommendation: Prosecutors said they are also recommending that Trader be labeled a sexually oriented offender. If that happens, upon his release from prison he would have to register with the sheriff's department in the county he resides. Trader would have to tell the sheriff's department where he lives and that he is a sexually oriented offender.
Prosecutors noted that Trader was secretly indicted by the grand jury in October but officials had to wait until he was released from prison in January to serve him with the charges.
Trader was sentenced to eight months in prison May 11, 2000, after being convicted of a breaking-and-entering charge.
Court records state that he also served 18 months in 1986 for receiving stolen property and auto theft.
