MAHONING VALLEY Foundation donates to Beatitude House

The organization is sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters.
WARREN -- Beatitude House of Mahoning County has received a $30,000 grant from the Wean Foundation to help begin operations of its House of Blessing and Potter's Wheel projects in Trumbull County by year's end.
Beatitude House, a not-for-profit organization committed to disadvantaged women and children in the Mahoning Valley, is sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters. Beatitude House earlier received $430,000 in Warren city and Trumbull County housing funds and $445,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to operate the satellite projects for three years.
House of Blessing, with 16 apartments on Youngstown's west and north sides, provides transitional housing for homeless women with children.
Will convert convent: Beatitude House plans to convert the convent at the former St. Joseph Riverside Hospital in Warren from a dormitory-style building to apartments and offices. Women would live in the apartments for two years, during which they receive counseling and support services while attending post-secondary classes on a full-time basis, according to Teresa Boyce, Ursuline Sisters spokeswoman.
The building is expected to be donated by the Humility of Mary Sisters, though the final papers have not been signed.
The Potter's Wheel project provides job preparation and training for women outside the economic and cultural mainstream, Boyce said. The Trumbull County satellite will be at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Warren. There is no fee to attend Potter's Wheel.
