EAST LIVERPOOL Maintenance problems close veterans clinic

East Liverpool area veterans will be treated at the Youngstown VA outpatient clinic.
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Veterans Affairs East Liverpool Clinic closed temporarily, but indefinitely, Wednesday because of air circulation, heating and cooling problems.
David B. Jewel, acting chief for public affairs for the VA Medical Center in Brecksville, said East Liverpool's mental health clinic will be relocated to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 47 home, 617 Broadway.
Where to get service: East Liverpool's medical patients will be served at the VA's Youngstown outpatient clinic, 2031 Belmont Ave., Youngstown. Veterans should contact the Youngstown clinic at (330) 740-9202 for information about their appointments. Efforts are being made to assist veterans with transportation to and from the Youngstown clinic, Jewell said.
VA officials are trying to reach all veterans served by the East Liverpool clinic to apprise them of the situation, Jewel said. He said the building in which the East Liverpool clinic is housed at 332 W. Sixth St., was formerly a small hospital.
Jewell said the VA clinic has been in the building about a year and there have been problems, such as odors, and the heating and cooling systems have not worked properly, for the entire time.
He said the VA will work with the building owner to correct the problem, but if that is not possible, will look for other space in the East Liverpool area for the clinic.
