Flag reminder
Families and friends of deceased military veterans are reminded that flag holders at cemeteries should be in place by May 15 in preparation for graves decoration day on Saturday, May 19, with a rain date of May 26.
Families are responsible for complying with cemetery rules and regulations.
TRAINING
Six complete basic
Several area residents have graduated from military basic training. They include:
Army Pvt. Shayna S. Jones, Fort Jackson, S.C. She is a daughter of Asmeeka Franklin, Pittsburgh, and granddaughter of Virginia Crim, 112 Florida St., Farrell.
Air Force Airman 1st Class Kraig E. McFadden, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He is a son of Vera Jean McFadden, 1003 Sunset Ave., Grove City. He graduated in 1995 from Grove City Senior High School and received an associate degree in 2000 from Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, Pa.
Air Force Airman Cherub Taylor, Lackland. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ross Taylor, 778 Liberty Road, Youngstown, and a 1999 graduate of The Rayen School, Youngstown.
Air Force Airman Herbert F. Tinsley, Lackland. He is the son of Monessa Tinsley, Pittsburgh, and Herbert Tinsley Jr., 265 Oakview Ave., Struthers, and is a 1998 graduate of Ursuline High School, Youngstown.
Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Ryan J. Papic, Lackland. He is the son of Denny and Tanya Papic, 1119 Elberon Ave., Salem, and a 1999 graduate of Salem High School.
Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Robert A. Stutzman, Lackland. He is the son of Liz Ciarniello, 216 Youngstown-Lowellville Road, Lowellville, and a 2000 graduate of Lowellville High School.
Graduates from course
Army 2nd Lt. Christopher J. Masson graduated from the transportation officer basic course at Fort Eustis, Va.
Masson is the son of Daniel and Sandra Masson, 256 Schiestle Road, Mercer, and is a 1992 graduate of Mercer High School and a 2000 graduate of Gannon University, Erie.
PROMOTIONS
Officer commissioned
George F. Lenahan has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force after graduating from Officer Training School (OTS) at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.
Lenahan is a 1989 graduate of Youngstown Ursuline High School and a 1995 graduate of the University of Cincinnati.
Graduates from WOCS
Sean M. Smith graduated from Army Warrant Officer Candidate School (WOCS) at Fort Rucker, Ala., and has been appointed to the rank of warrant officer one.
The graduate will receive further training to obtain technical and tactical certification.
He is the son of Robert A. and Linda L. Louis, 14309 Sprucevale Road, Calcutta, and a 1993 graduate of Beaver Local High School, Lisbon.
RETIREMENT
Leaving military service
Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Larry T. Walker has retired after more than 23 years of military service. Before retiring, Walker was a military personnel flight superintendent with the 88th Mission Support Squadron.
He is the son of Magdalen M. and stepson of John Guinta, of Warren. The sergeant is a 1974 graduate of Howland High School and a 1989 graduate of the University of Maryland.
HONORS
Receives commendation
Army Staff Sgt. David C. Baker has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal, which is awarded for outstanding achievement or meritorious service.
Baker, a bassoon player, is assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division Band, Camp LaGuardia, Uijong-Bu, South Korea.
He is the son of Arnold J. and Kay F. Baker, 234 Stockfarm Road, Jackson Center, Pa., and graduated in 1989 from Lakeview High School, Pa.
