ROY E. THORNTON, 88



BELOIT -- Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, Salem, for Roy E. Thornton, 88, of 1392 Westville Lake Road, who died Friday at Salem Community Hospital.
Mr. Thornton was born Nov, 10, 1912 in Alliance, a son of H. Frank and Clara Anne Springer Thornton.
Before retiring in 1974, he worked 17 years with the yard gang at Morgan Engineering in Alliance. Before that, he was a truck driver for Robertson Heating & amp; Supply in Alliance.
He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, North Georgetown, Homeworth Masonic Lodge, Sebring VFW and George B. Worth American Legion Post, North Georgetown.
He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Besides his wife, the former Theda Barnett, whom he married June 20, 1947, he leaves a daughter, Kay Thornton of Parma; two sisters, Pearl Moorehead of Canton and Beulah Estock of Alliance; and a stepsister, Anna Brockett of Alliance.
A daughter, Barbara, is deceased.
Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.
