HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL Mineral Ridge's Ault no-hits Bristol
Lakeview and Boardman enjoyed easy wins while Mooney won a close one.
MINERAL RIDGE -- Ashley Ault, in her second outing of the season, pitched a no-hitter Thursday as Mineral Ridge downed Bristol 5-1 in a high school softball game.
The Rams (2-0) scored four runs in the top of the third inning as Kristi Padovani walked, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Holly Mills.
Ault walked and both runners advanced on a ground out, then scored on a double by Tiffany Hack. Hack scored when she was attempting to steal third and the ball was thrown into the outfield.
Lakeview 9, Girard 0: CORTLAND -- Jessica Jurkovic and Heather Fink combined to pitch a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts.
Lana Antonelli rapped three singles and drove in four runs, to pace Lakeview in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Fink, who relieved Jurkovic in the sixth inning, got all six of her outs on strikeouts.
Carissa Prince had three singles, a sacrifice bunt and two RBIs to pace Lakeview (1-0, 1-0), while Carissa Pringle and Heather Arbuckle each had two singles and one RBI.
Girard is 1-1, 0-1.
Mooney 2, South Range 1: YOUNGSTOWN -- In the bottom of the 10th inning with one out, Mooney's Sara Wright reached base on an error, stole second, then scored on a single by Danielle Kepics.
Kepics, who singled twice, scored the first run and she had two stolen bases.
Melissa Lorosa, who came on in relief of Kepics in the sixth inning picked up the win.
The two pitchers scattered six hits and didn't allow a walk. Kepics struck out six and Lorosa seven.
Boardman 11, Jackson-Milton 0: BOARDMAN -- Marissa Bartholomew (2-0) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 batters.
With two outs in the sixth inning, Theresa Yeager of Jackson-Milton singled off the first baseman's glove to spoil Bartholomew's no-hit bid.
Bartholomew aided her own cause with three singles and drove in two runs.
Laura Amero hit two singles, stole three bases and scored twice. Jaclyn Corroto hit a double and single, and drove in two runs.
The Spartans' Mary McCabe tripled and singled, had two RBIs and stole a base. Jennifer Feret, with two RBIs and Amanda Ford each had two singles.
