Q. Can you give me some idea what to wear to disguise, as much as possible, a broken leg that is so crooked that slacks don't do much. Are long skirts the answer? I am 5-foot-2, weigh 120 pounds and am 80 years old.
A. Long skirts should do a good job of hiding your broken leg. However, I wouldn't recommend skirts any longer than the lower calf, for two reasons:
First, an ankle-length skirt often seems overwhelmingly long on petite women such as yourself. And second -- and more important -- because of your broken leg, you probably are not as nimble as usual, and a really long skirt may trip you up, especially when you are negotiating stairs.
To further disguise your injured leg when wearing a lower-calf-length skirt, try wearing tights or trouser socks. And until your leg is healed, do stick with flat, supportive shoes.
