KEYSTONE CLIPS Discolored water is only temporary

Sunday, March 25, 2001

If you are a customer of the Shenango Valley Division of Consumers Pennsylvania Water Co. and you notice your water is a bit discolored Monday, don't be alarmed.
The company said it will be flushing mains throughout its system beginning Monday. That will affect customers in Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania and Brookfield Township in Ohio.
During the process, fire hydrants are opened to allow water pressure to forcefully remove nonharmful sediment from the main lines. Flushing the entire system will take about six weeks.
Customers may experience some temporary discoloration or decreased water pressure during the process. The water company advises customers to run a cold-water faucet for a few minutes to clear the water. The company serves nearly 80,000 customers.
Founders Day: Geneva College will sponsor a celebration April 20 to mark its establishment 153 years ago. The Founders Day Gala will feature the River City Brass Band at 8 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse.
Two levels of ticket packages, which include an after-concert reception, are available. Founders' Circle tickets, which are floor seats, are $25; and Gala Circle tickets, which are open gallery, are $17 each. For tickets, call (724) 847-6520.
Lake Arthur: Prospect Borough, Butler County, has received a grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority that will eliminate raw sewage discharges into Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park during wet weather.
The $1.15 million grant will be used to construct an 839,000-gallon-per-day equalization tank with connections to the sewer system and to re-route the McGowan pump station in the borough, alleviating overflows at pump station 7. The station sends all of the borough flow to Moraine's waste treatment plant.
